Welcome to my personal website.

I am a Ph.D. student in Data Science at HEC Montreal (U. Montreal's Business School). Before joining HEC, I received a B.Sc. in Industrial Engineering and an M.Sc. in Economics, both from the Sharif University of Technology.

Broadly speaking, I love to exploit data to solve practical issues that business people and policymakers face. My main research interests include applied econometrics, statistical and causal inference, and machine learning. I am specifically interested in working on the important issues in energy economics/policy, and electricity markets.

I combine both reduced-form and structural approaches to answer research questions and employ techniques that span economics, mathematics, statistics, and data science.

The challenge in economic research lies not in coming up with a good answer as much as in asking the right question.Ricardo Perez-Truglia
